Monarch by SimplePractice

Monarch helps therapy seekers find the right therapists. As a content writer, my job was to help create a library of educational articles for their site. Writing pieces like these required hours of research, an eye for strong sources, and a knack for making complex concepts sound simple.

The task was to turn sobering statistics, technical language, and sensitive subject matter into encouraging explainers. I was hired as a content writer, but my real job was to break down big concepts for people with pressing questions.

I put myself in the reader’s shoes while I researched, and found data that resonated on a human level. I emphasized the practical importance of therapy, and steered clear of medical jargon wherever I could. My goal was to sound like a well-informed friend, not a research fellow.

Credibility and relatability aren’t mutually exclusive. In fact, I think that people educate most effectively when they do so conversationally. My grandpa used to say that if you can make Dialectical Behavior Therapy sound sexy in SEO format, you can do anything. I hope he’s right.
